Re: Snowstorm of January 26-27 -- Staff Attendance During Level 4 Weather Emergency -- Campuses Closed -- Policy Applicability

I would like to express the university’s appreciation to all those staff employees who worked to maintain essential services on January 26-27, 2015, during the severe weather conditions at the RBHS, Rutgers-Newark, Rutgers-New Brunswick, and Rutgers-Camden Campuses.

This memorandum confirms the severe weather conditions that were in effect at Rutgers as a result of the snowstorm of January 26-27, 2015, and provides information to the university community about applicable portions of Policies 60.3.16 and 60.9.58. CONDITIONS IN EFFECT ON JANUARY 26 – 27, 2015

Due to adverse weather conditions, a Level 4-Weather Emergency – Campus(es) Closed was declared for all of Rutgers from 4:00 p.m. on January 26, 2015 to 5:00 p.m. on January 27, 2015.

LEVEL 4 - WEATHER EMERGENCY – CAMPUS(ES) CLOSED POLICIES

When the university is closed because of a Level 4 - Weather Emergency – Campus(es) Closed, the following procedures are in effect:

NON ESSENTIAL SERVICES EMPLOYEES

Employees who are not essential services personnel are excused with pay for the duration of the declared weather emergency. Absences beyond the period of closing must be charged to appropriate accrued time.

ESSENTIAL SERVICES EMPLOYEES

Consistent with the university’s policies, Legacy Rutgers essential services employees who were required to work or who were required to remain on duty, AND who are eligible for overtime will receive straight time pay for all time worked on their regularly scheduled shift plus time and time half for all hours worked during that period.

Consistent with the university’s policies, Legacy UMDNJ essential services employees who were required to work or who were required to remain on duty, AND who are eligible for overtime will be paid two times their regular pay for all regularly scheduled hours worked during the period of closing.

An essential services employee who was scheduled to work on January 26 or on January 27, 2015, but did not come to work without proper approval may not be paid for time not worked during the period of closing.  

ADDITIONAL USEFUL INFORMATION

  • During this designated “Level 4 - Weather Emergency – Campus(es) Closed,” Legacy Rutgers employees with previously scheduled paid time away from work will not be required to charge time against accrued leave.
  • During this designated “Level 4 - Weather Emergency – Campus Closed,” legacy UMDNJ employees who were on approved leaves of absence, vacation or float holiday shall be charged per the requested time off with no change in compensation.
  • Class 3 employees will be excused with pay for up to one day during this designated “Level 4 - Weather Emergency – Campus(es) Closed,” period.
  • Class 4 employees are to be compensated only for time actually worked.
