    Three-hour classroom session. This advanced course is designed for Business/Accounting Supervisors. This session will provide a comprehensive overview of the processes involved in entering into contractual agreements. Prerequisite: Purchasing Workshop.     A two-day conference designed to provide departmental research administrators concrete skills in financial management, budgeting, fiscal controls, intellectual property rights, technology transfer, and effective managerial relationships.

  • Discoverer - Review of Standard Reports (BACP)
    This is a hands-on seminar. Participants will be working with their own data. PREREQUISITES REQUIRED: 1. Attendees will need Discoverer acess (the "Financial Data Access" section of the RIAS Access Request Form must be submitted and processed) 2. Attendees must attend the Journal Creation in the New General Ledger seminar. This Review of Standard Reports seminar is a three hour course which is intended for all employees who utilize Discoverer, the University's General Ledger System, for any reason, from getting a financial overview to reconciling accounts.

    The purpose of the forum is to give the opportunity for Discoverer users to gather and discuss various issues.

  • Discoverer Plus I: Review and Modification of Standard Discoverer Reports (INACTIVE)
    Three-hour, hands on class. This session is designed for the entry level Discoverer user, or any user who wants to gain a better understanding of the purpose and content of the Standard Discoverer Reports. Prerequisite: Participants must have Discoverer access prior to registering for this course

  • Discoverer Plus II: Creating Custom Discoverer Reports (INACTIVE)
    Three hour, hands on course. In this session, participants will learn to create custom reports and will become familiar with advanced Discoverer Plus tools. Prerequisite: Completion of Discoverer Plus I

  • Discoverer Plus Intermediate: Modifying and Creating Custom Reports (C) (INACTIVE)
    Participant must have Discoverer access to the Financial Data Warehouse (FDW) prior to enrolling. To obtain access, submit the FDW Discoverer Access Request form from http://www.acs.rutgers.edu/Access/. Completion of the Discoverer Plus Introduction class or familiarity with the Discoverer tool is desired. This three-hour session is designed for the user who wants to learn to modify and/or create reports. Participants will learn how to modify the Financial Standard Reports, create custom reports, and learn some of the more advanced features of Discoverer Plus such as reformatting, sorting, totaling, and subtotaling, and adding conditions and parameters to narrow results of the query. Applies towards the Business/Accounting Certificate Program.

  • Discoverer Plus Introduction: Review and Navigation of Standard Reports (C) (INACTIVE)
    Participant must have Discoverer access to the Financial Data Warehouse (FDW) prior to enrolling. To obtain access, submit the FDW Discoverer Access Request form from http://www.acs.rutgers.edu/Access/. This three-hour hands-on session is designed for the user who wants a better understanding of the purpose and content of the Financial Standard Reports. Each report will be reviewed. Participants will leanr to create a connection to Discoverer and navigate through standard reports using their own financial data. They will become familiar with some of the basic functionality available including printing and exporting. Applies towards the Business/Accounting Certificate Program.

  • Discoverer Plus: Creating Custom Reports in the Financial Data Warehouse Part I (INACTIVE)
    Three-hour hands-on session. Participants will learn how to use the Discoverer Plus tool to create and modify reports created from data available in the Financial Data Warehouse. Prerequisites: Discoverer Viewer, basic computer skills, experience with other query/database tools and spreadsheet tools. You must have access to Discoverer prior to taking this class.

  • Discoverer Plus: Creating Custom Reports in the Financial Data Warehouse Part II (INACTIVE)
    Three-hour hands-on session. Participants will be introduced to advanced features of Discoverer Plus. Prerequisites: Discoverer Viewer, Discoverer Plus: Creating Custom Reports in the Financial Data Warehouse Part I, Introduction to Data in the Financial Data Warehouse. You must have access to Discoverer prior to taking this class.

  • Discoverer Viewer: Working with Pre-Defined Reports in the Financial Data Warehouse (INACTIVE)
    Three-hour hands-on session. Participants will learn how to use the Discoverer Viewer tool to view, print and export pre-defined reports available in the Financial Data Warehouse. Prerequisites: basic computer skills, Excel or some spreadsheet experience. You must have access to Discoverer prior to taking this class.

  • Effort Reporting Policy & Process and ECRT System Training (Part 1) (BACP)
    This MANDATORY course will familiarize Effort Coordinators with federal regulations and Rutgers University policies & procedures that govern effort reporting & certification. It will also introduce Effort Coordinators to the Effort Card Building & Pre-Review stages in ECRT & discuss their role and responsibilities.   • Effort Reporting Policy & Process and ECRT System Training (Part II) (BACP)
    This MANDATORY course will continue to review policies and procedures that govern effort reporting and certification. It will also provide instructions on how to review, track and process effort card in ECRT during the Certification and Post Certification stages.

    Three hour classroom session. This session will outline the key principles and university policies regarding effort reporting on sponsored programs, discuss the risks of non-compliance, discuss roles and responsibilities for effort management and reporting and provide a detailed review of the verification and certification process.

  • Excel: Basics for Business/Accounting Staff (Current version 2007) (BACP)
    All covered topics are relevant to 2003 and 2007 versions; process and tools are essentially the same, where to find tools differs. Three-hour hands-on session for Business/Accounting Certificate participants. This session will orient the new user to the concept of the spreadsheet (or worksheet) in Excel. Applies towards the Business/Accounting Certificate Program.

  • Excel: Intermediate for Business/Accounting (Current Version 2007) (BACP)
    All covered topics are relevant to 2003 and 2007 versions; process and tools are essentially the same, where to find tools differs. Three-hour hands-on session. For participants in the Business/Accounting Certificate Program. Intermediate Excel will focus on more advanced formula creation, such as using different functions, creating what-if scenarios with cell reference tools, and the subtotal utility. Applies towards the Business/Accounting Certificate Program.

  • Financial Management of Sponsored Programs I: Award Acceptance and Establishment (FIN1) (BACP)
    This session will provide an overview of policies, procedures and processes related to the acceptance and establishment of a sponsored program.

  • Financial Management of Sponsored Programs II: Project Management (FIN2) (BACP)
    Prerequisite: Financial Management of Sponsored Programs I. This session will provide an overview of policies, procedures and processes related to the day to day administration of a sponsored program from award establishment to closeout.

  • Financial Management of Sponsored Programs III: Project Reporting, Closeouts , Audits (FIN3) (BACP)
    Prerequisite: Financial Management of Sponsored Programs II. Three hour classroom session. This session will provide an overview of policies, procedures and processes related to the reporting, closeout and audits of a sponsored program. Topics include a review of reporting requirements, how invoicing and accounts receivables impacts you, action to take when an award expires, a review of the steps and the completion of various documents involved in a closeout, audit topics and record retention requirements.

  • Grants and Gifts: What's the Big Deal? (BACP)
    Three-hour classroom session. This session will provide a broad overview of policies, procedures and processes related to the administration of gifts, grants and contracts. Applies towards the Business/Accounting Certificate Program.

  • Internal Controls: Concepts and Applications (BACP)
    Three-hour classroom session. This session will give participants an understanding of internal control principles and how to apply them in their departments. Applies towards the Business/Accounting and IT Certificate Programs.

  • Introduction to REX
    Participants will learn how to use the new RIAS Extension system (REX). The REX system is a supplemental system available to departments to track expenditures. This workshop will focus on how to retrieve and review data in the REX system. Enter Salary Reallocation Forms, TABERs and Adjustments directly into REX. This class will be hands on and individuals will need to have access to REX prior to attending the class. You need to have RIAS access before you will be given REX access.   • Introduction to the Data in the Financial Data Warehouse (Discoverer) - (INACTIVE)
    Three-hour hands-on session. Through exercises and lecture, participants will gain an understanding of the data elements and table structures within the Financial Data Warehouse. Prerequisites: Discoverer Viewer, Discoverer Plus: Creating Custom Reports in the Financial Data Warehouse Part I. You must have access to Discoverer prior to taking this class.

  • Journal Creation in the new General Ledger (BACP)
    Participants will have a basic understanding of how to access and navigate in the new General Ledger, how to create a journal directly in the RIAS application or using Web ADI (an Excel Template), add an attachment and find, view and approve journals.   • OFIS Workshop (C) (INACTIVE)
    This workshop provides a demonstration of how to use the Online Financial Information System (OFIS). Applies towards the Business/Accounting Certificate Program.

  • Overview of Accounts Payable/Disbursement Control (INACTVE)
    Three-hour classroom session. This session will provide a broad overview of the accounts payable organization, including policies and procedures. Tax issues related to the accounts payable area will also be discussed. Prerequisite: Purchasing Workshop. Applies towards the Business/Accounting Certificate Program.

  • Overview of Accounts Payable/TABER and Tax Policies (BACP)
    Three-hour classroom session. This session will provide a broad overview of the accounts payable organization, including policies and procedures. TABER and tax issues related to the accounts payable area will also be discussed. Participants will gain an understanding of the payment process flow and will be provided with related contact information. Prerequisite: Purchasing Workshop. Applies towards the Business/Accounting Certificate Program

  • Principles of Fund Accounting (BACP)
    Three-hour classroom session. This session provides a broad overview of accounting terms, concepts, and procedures in the Rutgers environment. Applies towards the Business/Accounting Certificate Program.

  • Purchasing Policies and Procedures (BACP)
    Departments are strongly encouraged to send all individuals responsible for departmental purchasing to this training. Participants will gain a working knowledge of current purchasing policies and procedures. This session provides participants with a broad overview of purchasing policies and processes at Rutgers. The instructor will review key issues such as insurance implications and contractual risk transfer. Participants will gain an understanding of how to address unique purchasing requests and make sound purchasing decisions. Participants will become familiar with a method to help manage priorities and reduce the likelihood of unwelcome surprises in their areas of responsibility. Prerequisite: Internal Controls Concepts and Applications. Applies towards the Business/Accounting and IT Certificate Programs.

  • The Purchasing "How To" Workshop (Newark)
    This is a two-hour workshop that will provide the participants with an overview of the daily puchase order process along with the explanation of RFP's and RFQ's. All the above will be incompliance with the polilcies and procedures of The University. Instructors will be Alvin Cooley and Ida Angelone. This workshop is non BACP related.
