Re: Performance Evaluations for Staff in Legacy UMDNJ Aligned Positions

Each year, in order to comply with university policy and collective negotiations agreements, Rutgers University supervisors are called upon to conduct performance evaluations for their employees.  These performance management processes allow managers and employees to engage in a thoughtful dialogue about the year’s performance and accomplishments, and to define goals and objectives for the coming performance cycle. 

The following guidelines will assist supervisors in the completion of the performance appraisal process for their aligned (union) employees: 

  • In accordance with legacy UMDNJ policy 60.9.28, Performance Evaluations (http://policies.rutgers.edu/view-policies/human-resources-hr-%E2%80%93-section-60) and applicable collective negotiations agreements (http://uhr.rutgers.edu/policies-resources/collective-negotiations-agreements), supervisors and managers of staff in legacy UMDNJ positions are responsible for providing a formal performance evaluation to eligible union employees on an annual basis.
  • Supervisors must complete annual performance evaluations and notify employees of their appraisal results. To assist with this process, the Legacy UMDNJ Staff Performance Review Table outlines for managers and supervisors the various staff employee groups for whom performance appraisals must be completed, the review dates when appraisals should be finalized, and the appropriate appraisal form to use.  This table is available at: http://uhr.rutgers.edu/sites/default/files/userfiles/Legacy-UMDNJ-Staff-Performance-Review-Table.pdf
  • The performance appraisal forms for use in evaluating legacy UMDNJ aligned employees may be accessed from the UHR Forms webpage, under Performance Appraisal Forms, at http://uhr.rutgers.edu/policies-resources/forms/performance-appraisal-forms 
  • Completed performance evaluations must be signed by the appraised employees and multiple levels of supervisors as required. The signed appraisal forms must be forwarded to Human Resources Data Administration at University Human Resources (UHR), Administrative Services Building II, Cook Campus.  You may contact Data Administration at (848) 932-3906 with any questions.  Please retain copies for your records.

NOTE TO SUPERVISORS IN LEGACY RUTGERS POSITIONS – If you supervise legacy UMDNJ aligned employees who are covered by these appraisal processes, you must evaluate eligible employees using the corresponding appraisal tools by the timeframe identified in the Legacy UMDNJ Staff Performance Review Table (http://uhr.rutgers.edu/sites/default/files/userfiles/Legacy-UMDNJ-Staff-Performance-Review-Table.pdf).
